Disney has officially announced that The Magic of Disney Animation will open September 14, 2026, at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
The new experience will bring an indoor Alice in Wonderland playground, Disney character greetings, drawing classes with Olaf, a dedicated Once Upon a Studio theater and more to the reimagined Walt Disney Studios area.
All of that sounds fun, but from a Family Quest perspective, the bigger story is what this adds for families with younger children.
Hollywood Studios has needed this.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios has some of Walt Disney World’s biggest attractions, but it has not always been the easiest park to navigate with toddlers and preschoolers.
Many of the park’s headlining attractions have height requirements, while other experiences for younger children are tied to scheduled showtimes. Toy Story Land has carried much of the weight for families with little ones, but most of the land is outdoors.

The experience we are most excited about for families is Drawn to Wonderland, an immersive indoor playground inspired by Disney Legend Mary Blair’s original concept artwork for Alice in Wonderland.
Young children will be able to climb, wander and create their own adventures through spaces inspired by the Mad Tea Party, the Mad Hatter’s house, the Queen of Hearts’ rose garden and the Cheshire Cat’s Tulgey Wood. Disney says the playground was designed especially for little ones and will give families a place to play and recharge.
This is exactly the type of experience Hollywood Studios has been missing.
A playground gives children a chance to get out of the stroller, use their imaginations and lead the adventure for a little while. It could also become an ideal afternoon stop after several hours in Toy Story Land or Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
Just be careful about scheduling it immediately before a dining reservation. Removing a happy preschooler from a playground because the adults booked lunch is how tiny rebellions begin.

Olaf Draws! will bring a new Disney character drawing experience to the area.
An all-new Audio-Animatronics Olaf will welcome guests from an animator’s desk while recorded Disney Animation artists guide participants through drawing a character step by step.
Possible drawing subjects include Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Genie, Moana, Stitch, Olaf, Ursula, Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde. The featured artist and character may vary by session.
This experience should appeal to more than just younger children. Preschoolers may come for Olaf, while elementary-age kids, teenagers and adults may enjoy learning from Disney artists and creating a souvenir they can take home.
Meet Disney Characters in Off the Page!
Families will also be able to meet Disney characters inside Off the Page!, where the character settings are inspired by different departments within Walt Disney Animation Studios.
Disney says guests may encounter Mulan in Story, Rapunzel in Layout, Chip and Dale in Hand-Drawn Animation, Donald and Daisy in Computer Animation, Goofy in Lighting and Stitch in Effects. Character appearances may vary.
The animation-inspired settings should make these encounters feel more immersive than a standard character backdrop. They may also help children understand that every Disney animated movie begins with artists, drawings, ideas and many different stages of creative work.
Watch Once Upon a Studio and Explore the Gallery
The new Once Upon a Studio Theater will show the Emmy Award-winning animated short that helped inspire the entire area.
