You do not need a Universal park ticket to visit, which makes it one of the easier ways to add a lively Universal-area evening to an Orlando trip without committing to a full park day.

For families, CityWalk usually works best as a destination with a real purpose. Maybe you want dinner in a busier setting, a dessert stop after a hotel-pool afternoon, or a night out that feels more festive than staying in your resort area. Once you arrive, it is straightforward to walk, bright, active, and full of that big-theme-park-adjacent energy that can make even a simple meal feel like more of an outing.
