Dollywood’s popular fall festival runs September 14 through October 31 with more than 12,000 glowing pumpkins, seasonal food, live music and several new experiences for 2026.
There are theme park fall festivals, and then there is fall at Dollywood.
Dollywood’s Harvest Festival presented by Humana is officially underway for 2026, bringing six weeks of fall food, live entertainment, thousands of glowing pumpkins and the return of Great Pumpkin LumiNights to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.
The festival runs September 14 through October 31, 2026, and the Harvest Festival, Great Pumpkin LumiNights and regular festival entertainment are included with Dollywood admission or a Season Pass.
This festival is wildly popular. Every longtime Dollywood fan we have talked with says some version of the same thing: fall is one of their favorite times to visit, and for many of them, Harvest Festival is their favorite Dollywood festival of the year.
It is not hard to understand why.
Dollywood already has the advantage of sitting in the Smoky Mountains. Add fall weather, changing leaves, pumpkins everywhere, seasonal food and live music, and this is one of those times when the setting outside the theme park becomes part of the experience too.
Dollywood is also much more than its roller coasters. Yes, there are major attractions here, but there is also live entertainment, food, crafts, family rides and plenty to explore at a slower pace.
That makes Harvest Festival especially appealing if you are traveling with younger children or a family with mixed ages. Your kids do not have to be tall enough for every coaster to have a very full Dollywood day.
Just keep one thing in mind: this festival is popular. Dollywood’s Harvest Festival has become a longstanding fall tradition, and October is already one of the most popular times to visit the Smoky Mountains.
When Is Dollywood’s Harvest Festival in 2026?

Dollywood’s Harvest Festival runs September 14 through October 31, 2026.
The festival itself is included with regular park admission, so you do not need a separate festival ticket to experience Great Pumpkin LumiNights, seasonal decorations, festival concerts or the regular Harvest Festival activities around the park.
Dollywood stays open until 9 p.m. throughout the festival, giving families time to experience the park after dark. Dollywood has also announced extended operating hours from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. October 3 through October 15.
Always check Dollywood’s official operating calendar before your visit because park hours and operating days can change.

Great Pumpkin LumiNights Returns With More Than 12,000 Pumpkins

The biggest reason we would plan to stay at Dollywood after dark is Great Pumpkin LumiNights.
More than 12,000 pumpkins light up Dollywood after sunset, with glowing displays and carved pumpkin characters throughout the park.
Signature displays include Hoot Owl Hollow, Dolly’s giant illuminated guitar and a towering 40 foot pumpkin tree.
And this is an important distinction for families: Great Pumpkin LumiNights is not trying to turn Dollywood into a scary haunted theme park.
The focus is whimsical fall fun rather than horror.
That makes it a much easier Halloween season option for families with younger children or kids who love pumpkins, costumes and fall decorations but want absolutely nothing to do with being chased through a fog filled scare zone.
Why Fall Is Such a Good Time to Visit Dollywood
Even without the festival, fall is one of the most appealing times to plan a Dollywood trip.
East Tennessee can still be plenty warm in September, so I would not start packing sweaters just because the calendar says fall. But as the season progresses, families generally get a break from peak summer heat, and cooler evenings certainly make it easier to keep kids in a theme park until after dark.
Then there is the location.
Dollywood sits in one of the country’s best known fall destinations. A Dollywood trip can easily become part of a bigger Smoky Mountains vacation with time in Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg and Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
That scenery is part of what makes Harvest Festival feel different from a fall overlay at a theme park sitting in the middle of a city.
Dollywood itself leans heavily into the combination of fall color, mountain scenery, seasonal food and live music during Harvest Festival.
Of course, everyone else has discovered that October in the Smokies is lovely too.
If your schedule allows, we would strongly consider visiting Dollywood on a weekday rather than making Saturday your only option.
Is Dollywood’s Harvest Festival Worth It With Younger Kids?
Yes, and we would not dismiss Dollywood simply because your children are not coaster kids.
Dollywood is certainly known for attractions like Lightning Rod, Wild Eagle and Big Bear Mountain, plus the new NightFlight Expedition. But treating Dollywood only as a thrill park really undersells what families can do here.
That is one of the reasons we like Dollywood for mixed age families.
You can have one child who wants every coaster and another who would happily never see a restraint bar all day, and you can still build a family day that works.
Dollywood has family attractions, live shows, food, working craftspeople, shopping and plenty of places where slowing down is actually part of the experience.
During Harvest Festival, you also have seasonal entertainment, fall food and eventually Great Pumpkin LumiNights.
Older kids and adults can tackle the bigger attractions while younger children still have plenty to explore. Then everyone gets to experience the nighttime festival together.
Dollywood also confirms that regular rides continue operating during Harvest Festival, including the park’s coasters and Dollywood Express.
For a family with mixed ages, that may be one of the festival’s biggest advantages.

Dollywood Fall Food Is Part of the Experience

You cannot really talk about Dollywood without eventually talking about food.
Harvest Festival features more than 30 seasonal dishes, along with the returning Harvest Festival Tasting Pass.
Dollywood’s Harvest Festival Tasting Pass costs $44.99 plus tax, or $41.99 plus tax for Season Passholders, and lets guests choose five eligible festival items.
For a family, I would probably approach this as a sharing opportunity rather than immediately buying a pass for everyone.
Trying several seasonal dishes together is half the fun anyway.
And Dollywood is already a park where food is part of the attraction. Harvest Festival just gives you another excuse to walk around saying, “We should probably split that,” before somehow ordering three things.
More Than 700 Live Performances During Harvest Festival
Dollywood has always put much more emphasis on live entertainment than many major theme parks, and Harvest Festival continues that tradition.
More than 700 live performances are scheduled during the festival, featuring Southern gospel, bluegrass, country and Americana music.
Regular Harvest Festival performances are included with park admission.
This is another reason we would not judge a Dollywood visit purely by the number of rides your children are tall enough to ride.
For families who enjoy slowing down and actually spending time in the park, rather than simply checking rides off a list, Dollywood offers a lot of ways to fill the day.
Dollywood publishes its current Harvest Festival entertainment schedule online, and I would check it before your trip if live music is important to your family.

Harvey’s Boo Bash Is Brand New for 2026
The biggest change to Dollywood’s Halloween season is Harvey’s Boo Bash, the park’s first separately ticketed after hours event.
Harvey’s Boo Bash takes place on:
October 16
October 23
October 30
The event runs from 9 p.m. until midnight, after Dollywood closes to regular guests.
The party includes candy collecting stations, character meet and greets, dance parties, specialty food and merchandise and access to many Dollywood attractions after hours, including NightFlight Expedition.
Boo Bash tickets also allow guests to enter Dollywood beginning at 4 p.m., so families can experience Harvest Festival and Great Pumpkin LumiNights before the after hours event begins.
Official Boo Bash information: Harvey’s Boo Bash at Dollywood
Do You Need Harvey’s Boo Bash Tickets for Great Pumpkin LumiNights?
No.
This is probably the most important thing to understand if you are planning a fall Dollywood trip.
Great Pumpkin LumiNights is included with regular Dollywood admission.
Harvey’s Boo Bash is an optional, separately ticketed after hours party offered on only three nights.
You do not need a Boo Bash ticket to experience the regular Harvest Festival, Great Pumpkin LumiNights, festival entertainment or the standard seasonal decorations.
For many families, regular Dollywood admission will give you plenty of fall experience without adding another ticket.
Staying at Dollywood During Harvest Festival
If you want to turn Harvest Festival into a full Smoky Mountains getaway, it is also worth comparing Dollywood’s official resort packages with booking your hotel and park tickets separately.
Dollywood currently offers Harvest Festival Stay & Play packages for travel through October 31.
Depending on the package, resort guests can receive benefits such as Dollywood admission, complimentary TimeSaver access and resort transportation.
Official resort offer: Dollywood Harvest Festival Stay & Play
Do the math before booking.
Sometimes a package wins. Sometimes a separate hotel and discounted tickets make more sense. Families should compare the actual total rather than assuming “package” automatically means “deal.”
Family Quest Central Tip: Do Not Leave Before Dark

If Harvest Festival is one of the reasons you are visiting Dollywood, plan your day around staying after sunset.
Great Pumpkin LumiNights is not something we would squeeze into the final 20 minutes before heading back to the hotel.
Spend the earlier portion of your day riding attractions, watching a show and trying some of the fall food. Then slow the pace down once it gets dark and explore the illuminated areas of the park.
Dollywood stays open until 9 p.m. throughout Harvest Festival specifically so guests have time to experience the park after dark.
If you are traveling with younger kids, this may mean protecting some energy earlier in the day.
A late afternoon show, longer meal or slower hour could make the difference between seeing LumiNights and carrying an exhausted child toward the parking lot at 7:15.
Theme park parenting is glamorous like that.
Is Dollywood’s Harvest Festival Worth Planning a Trip Around?
Based on everything Dollywood offers during Harvest Festival and what we consistently hear from longtime Dollywood fans, this would be near the top of our list for a return Dollywood trip.
You are combining a full Dollywood theme park day with seasonal food, hundreds of live performances, more than 12,000 glowing pumpkins and the fall atmosphere of the Smoky Mountains.
And you do not need children who are tall enough to ride every coaster to enjoy it.
Families with younger kids can still build a day around family attractions, entertainment, food and Great Pumpkin LumiNights. Families with older kids get all of that plus Dollywood’s bigger rides.
The biggest planning advice may simply be to give yourself enough time.
Do not rush Dollywood during Harvest Festival.
Eat something you probably did not need. Catch a show. Let the kids explore. Ride what your family wants to ride.
Then stay until those pumpkins turn on.
That seems to be the part everyone keeps raving about.
