And after eating our way through the entire menu, we think this is much more than a convenient place to grab lunch while the kids are playing with dinosaurs.
It is one of the stronger places to eat in the park.
The menu does a good job balancing food adults may actually want to eat with the familiar staples younger kids tend to request. Adults can choose from grilled chicken, beef and plant based cauliflower bowls, while kids will find pizza, macaroni and cheese, hot dogs and the very appropriately named Dinosaur Bites.
Universal officially describes Jurassic World Canteen as the dining location for both the “carnivores and herbivores” exploring Jurassic World Adventure Camp.
If you only want our short version, start with the Campfire Chicken Bowl.
After trying everything on the menu, it was our top overall pick. The grilled chicken, cilantro lime rice, fresh tomato cucumber salad and garlic yogurt sauce make it filling without feeling like the typical heavy theme park meal.
The Carnivore Beef Bowl is another strong choice, particularly if you like chimichurri, while the Herbivore Cauliflower Bowl is one of the better plant based meals we have found at Universal Kids Resort. Just know that the curry sauce actually has some heat. This is not pretend theme park spicy.
For kids, the Dinosaur Bites are easily the most fun. Three dinosaur shaped chicken nuggets arrive on top of a mashed potato volcano with barbecue “lava,” broccoli and optional kid friendly side substitutions.
And if everyone still has room for dessert, the Excavation Brookie is enormous, extremely sweet and absolutely meant to be shared. The warm brownie surrounds a dinosaur shaped sugar cookie, and kids even get a tiny shovel to dig into it.

Jurassic World Canteen is a counter service restaurant, but you do not have to stand around holding a tray while trying to wrangle kids.
Guests place their order at the counter, receive a table number, choose a seat, and the food is delivered to the table.
That system works especially well for families.
The ordering line itself can get a little chaotic when the restaurant is busy, but once your order is placed, the experience is much easier. During our visits, food arrived fairly quickly.
There is a large air conditioned indoor dining room along with an outdoor patio.
Normally, telling a family visiting Texas in summer that outdoor dining is available is not exactly a selling point. But the patio has large industrial fans, and we have found it much more comfortable than expected.
Mobile ordering is not currently available, so plan to order at the counter.

Between Jurassic World: Cretaceous Coaster, climbing areas, Paddock Play and the baby dinosaur encounter, getting dinosaur obsessed children to voluntarily leave this land can require negotiations normally reserved for international diplomacy.

Jurassic World Canteen sits toward the back of Universal Kids Resort, so we especially like it for an early dinner or for lunch when your touring plan already puts you in Jurassic World Adventure Camp around midday.
The bowls are substantial enough for a full meal, and the kids menu has enough familiar options that most families should be able to find something without leaving the land.
Do not choose Jurassic World Canteen simply because it happens to be convenient.
The convenience is great, especially with younger kids, but the food is the bigger reason we would eat here again.
The fresh bowls are some of our favorite adult meals at Universal Kids Resort, the Dinosaur Bites give kids something genuinely fun, and the Excavation Brookie is one of the park’s better themed desserts.
Our biggest complaint is the ordering area, which can feel confusing when it gets crowded. Once you make it through that part, though, the restaurant works really well for families.
