Universal Kids Resort Early Entry Guide: What Opens, How It Works, and Is It Worth It?

Everything you need to know about Early Park Admission at Universal Kids Resort, including what to expect, what's currently open, how the entry process works, and our best tips .

Early Park Admission sounds like one of those perks that should feel hectic, but our two mornings at Universal Kids Resort were anything but. We walked over from the hotel, breezed through security, and stepped into a quiet park while most guests were still arriving. That extra hour meant short waits, cooler temperatures, and enough time for our kids to ride Bello Bay Cruise four times before the day really got going. Here is how Universal Kids early entry works, what was open during our visit, and what to realistically expect.

Key Takeaway

Early Park Admission gives Universal Kids Resort Hotel guests one hour of early access to select areas of the park before day guests arrive. During our visits, the process was quick and easy, SpongeBob SquarePants’ Bikini Bottom was open with minimal waits, and the relaxed atmosphere made it one of our favorite hotel perks. Additional attractions, like Minions Bello Bay Cruise, may occasionally be available, but they are not guaranteed. If you’re staying onsite, we think early entry is one of the best ways to maximize your park day, especially during the summer.

Early Park Admission is one of the biggest perks of staying at the Universal Kids Resort Hotel, but what can families actually expect during that extra hour?

We used early entry twice during our hotel stay, and both mornings were surprisingly relaxed. The process was easy, the crowds were light, and we were able to enjoy several attractions before the rest of the park opened. On one visit, our kids even rode Bello Bay Cruise four times before breakfast had fully settled.

The exact rides and lands available can change, so early entry isn’t the same experience every morning. Still, especially during a hot Texas summer, that cooler and quieter hour can completely change the way your family approaches the rest of the day.

What Is Early Park Admission?

Universal Kids Resort- early entry

Guests staying at the Universal Kids Resort Hotel receive access to select areas of Universal Kids Resort one hour before the park opens to the general public.

You’ll still need valid park admission or an Annual Pass.  Your Annual Pass must be eligible  for entry that day.  Early entry is a hotel benefit, not a separate ticket.

Universal notes that participating lands and attractions are subject to change, and based on our experience, that’s exactly how the program currently operates.

How Early Entry Works

The process couldn’t have been much easier.

We received our hotel wristbands at check-in, and every member of our family needed to wear one.

About 10 minutes before early entry began, we walked over from the hotel and were second in line. Team Members were already outside directing guests where to go and answering questions.

The process looked like this:

  • Show your hotel wristband.
  • Go through the dedicated hotel guest security checkpoint.
  • Scan your park ticket or Annual Pass.
  • Enter the park.

Everything moved quickly, and security was one of the smoothest we’ve experienced at any theme park.

When our Annual Passes were scanned, Team Members asked to take admission photos. The adults agreed, but we declined photos for our children. That wasn’t an issue at all. Team Members simply marked their passes accordingly, and we continued into the park without any delay.

Early Entry Felt Surprisingly Relaxed

As a family that visits a lot of theme parks, we expected early entry to feel much more intense.

At many larger parks, early entry can feel like a competition. Everyone has a strategy, everyone is rushing toward a headliner attraction, and the atmosphere can be surprisingly stressful.

That wasn’t our experience here.

Both mornings felt calm and unhurried. We enjoyed breakfast at the hotel, walked over to the entrance, cleared security, and entered the park without feeling like we needed to sprint anywhere.

There was no crowd surge, no running, and no pressure. It was simply a pleasant way to start the day.

Now, it’s worth mentioning that our visits took place while the park was still operating at reduced capacity. As attendance grows, this experience may evolve, and we’ll continue updating this guide as we make future visits.

What Is Currently Open During Early Entry?

At the time of our visits, SpongeBob SquarePants’ Bikini Bottom was the primary land open during Early Park Admission.

There was more than enough to fill the hour. Attractions had little to no wait, and SpongeBob and Patrick were both greeting guests during early entry. Those were the only characters we saw available before the rest of the park opened.

Minions Was a Fun Surprise

On one of our mornings, Team Members surprised guests by also opening Minions Bello Bay Cruise.

Naturally, that’s where our kids wanted to go first.

They ended up riding Bello Bay Cruise four times. Three of those rides happened almost back-to-back because there was no one waiting, so Team Members simply let everyone stay on for another lap.

Before you get too excited, though, here’s the important part.

Team Members told us that Bello Bay Cruise may be available on some mornings, but it’s intended to be a surprise rather than a scheduled part of early entry.

At this point, Universal has not announced a regular schedule for additional early-entry attractions, and we don’t know whether this will continue long term.

Our recommendation is simple:

Plan your morning around Bikini Bottom. If Minions happens to be open when you visit, treat it as an unexpected bonus.

We’ll continue checking early entry on future visits and update this guide if Universal changes the program.

What Isn’t Open?

During our visits, the remaining lands stayed closed until regular park opening.

We tried walking toward Jurassic World Adventure Jurassic World Advetnrue Camp but Team Members stopped guests at the entrance and explained that area would open with the rest of the park.

Right at official opening, guests began making their way toward Cretaceous Coaster, which was easily the biggest draw for families with older children.

Most food locations were also closed during early entry.

Universal Kids Resort Cafe near the front of the park was serving coffee and beverages, but the other dining locations we passed were not yet open.

Our Early Entry Strategy

After experiencing early entry twice, this is exactly how we’d do it again.

Arrive about 10 to 15 minutes before early entry begins.

Eat breakfast at  the Curiosity Cafe in the hotel first.

Make sure everyone already has their wristband on before leaving your room.

Head straight to Bikini Bottom and enjoy the low waits.

If Team Members announce that Minions is also opening that morning, you can decide whether it’s worth changing your plans.

Then, when the rest of the park opens, head toward your family’s next priority attraction.

The strategy doesn’t need to be complicated because the biggest advantage isn’t racing from ride to ride.

It’s enjoying a relaxed morning while everyone else is just arriving.

Why Early Entry Is Especially Valuable in Summer

For us, the biggest benefit wasn’t simply shorter waits.

It completely changed the rhythm of our day.

By enjoying attractions during the coolest hour of the morning, we felt much better about heading back to the hotel during the hottest part of the afternoon.

That gave us time to relax in the room, cool off at the pool, grab lunch, and return later feeling refreshed instead of exhausted.

Especially if you’re visiting with younger children, that flexibility is incredibly valuable.

Is Early Entry Worth It?

For our family, absolutely.

The process was easy, security was efficient, the atmosphere was calm, and we accomplished far more during that first hour than we expected.

Even if only Bikini Bottom is available, we think early entry is well worth using.

Anything beyond that, like our surprise morning on Bello Bay Cruise, is simply icing on the cake.

If you’re staying at the Universal Kids Resort Hotel, we’d recommend making early entry part of your routine every morning you’re eligible. It’s one of the best onsite perks available and a fantastic way to start your day.

Key Takeaway

Early Park Admission gives Universal Kids Resort Hotel guests one hour of access before the park opens to day guests. During our visits, the process was simple, the atmosphere was relaxed, and the extra hour made a noticeable difference. While additional attractions may occasionally be available, families should plan around the attractions that are officially part of early entry and treat anything extra as a bonus.
